Is it considered acceptable for the seller of a home to directly communicate with the buyer during the negotiations and closing process?

If the seller is representing him/her/themselves, then yes, as a For Sale By Owner, by definition, the Seller will communicate directly with the buyer, UNLESS the buyer is represented by an agent, in which case the seller will communicate directly with the buyer’s agent.

If the seller is represented by an agent, but the buyer is not, then the seller’s agent communicates directly with the buyer.

If both seller and buyer are represented by agents, then the agents communicate directly with each other, and the buyer and seller communicate with the other party through their agent.
